APPROACHES TO LEARNING AND TEACHING

At JESS, we believe that the students of today are the leaders of tomorrow and that is why our vision, mission, and values are at the core of all that we do. This is visible in the classroom, where are values are lived through action and education is viewed as a journey with the ambition of our graduates being ready to make a difference in the world.

As a not-for-profit school, we are able to make all decisions in the best interest of our students and this is reflected in the quality of teaching and learning. Our exceptional staff leave no stone unturned in support of their students, with the resources available to provide outstanding opportunities both in and out of the classroom.

From the first days at school in Foundation Stage, a JESS education instils a love for learning and curiosity to discover the world. As students progress through Primary, exploration underpins the learning experience with students beginning to discover their passion, with staff nurturing their holistic development. Leadership opportunities are made available, though every child is encouraged to be a leader through showing integrity in their actions. In the Secondary School, our learners are able to hone their focus as they begin to choose the subjects they wish to pursue and are encouraged to think of what lies ahead on their journey beyond school. This leads to a sense of commitment as students focus on excellence in their everyday lives in order to achieve their goals.

Whilst academic rigor is key to providing our students with a pathway to future success, the relationships between teachers and students is at the core of our philosophy for learning, we are a school that cares for one another. This is built upon mutual respect for all members of the community and is an intangible quality that you can feel as you set foot on the campus.

JESS is internationally recognised as a beacon of best practice in the field of digital learning. Across the school we prepare students with the skills needed to adapt to a world of ever improving technology. However, we also recognise that technology cannot replace interpersonal relationships and lessons seek to strike a balance of best practice between personal interactions and using the sum of humanity’s knowledge that is available at the touch of a button.
