JESS Sixth Form

JESS Sixth Form students choose one of two pathways, the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme or the BTEC Plus programme. Our Sixth Form handbook below offers comprehensive information on these different pathways. Both routes enable our students to access the highest-ranking universities around the world to further their educational journey.

JESS maintains exceptional standing globally, consistently leading with some of the highest performing outcomes. For a mixed ability intake of 100-120 students, these results are a source of great pride. JESS has soared to the top 1% in global IB rankings and, every year, celebrates students achieving the perfect IB Diploma score of 45/45, placing them among the top 0.02% worldwide. Over the past six years, our BTEC programme has provided an alternative pathway to IB and a variety of excellent tertiary options globally. An impressive 85% of our BTEC students gain the maximum grades possible of D*D*D*.

Whilst our academic outcomes are exceptional, we do not measure our success on examination results alone. We strive to identify and tap into every individual student’s unique gifts, finding areas in which they can shine and build confidence. Students are encouraged to take on leadership roles to develop their interests and to play an active role within our school community and beyond. IB Programme

The International Baccalaureate (IB) develops inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

This 2-year study programme offers students a breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding that builds an inquiring mindset, that fosters a desire to learn and allows them to flourish academically and prepare themselves for university and future careers.

As an IB World school, our students consistently achieve outstanding examination results, that are comparable to the top global schools, and our JESS alumni go on to study at prestigious universities around the world.

BTEC Plus Programme

The JESS BTEC programme is a two-year programme that offers students a unique pathway towards university studies or a selected career path. Students focus on one area of interest, such as business, sport or art, and they complete various modules that not only give them a depth and breadth of knowledge in their chosen subject but also real-world experience.

An Introduction

The JESS Extended Level 3 Diploma is equivalent in value to three A-Levels at university. We offer three courses – Art and Design, Business and Sport – and most students take an additional course to expand their knowledge.

The BTEC course is flexible enough for students to meet their educational needs and interests, and the students receive a balance of classroom teaching combined with project work and practical, work-related activities that develop and enhance skills such as teamwork, creative thinking and presentation techniques.
